CLIFDEN ARTS FESTIVAL
Clifden Community Arts festival are delighted to announce that the world class theatre production company Druid will return to perform at this years 35th festival on the 24  & 25th  of  September to perform two renowned tales of Irish emigration “Conversations on a Homecoming” and  “A Whistle in the Dark”.  Druid have travelled worldwide performing their works theatre greatness and now return to their homeland of Galway where it all began.

Druid in a co-production with Galway Arts Festival, Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, Lincoln Center Festival, and NUI Galway presents DruidMurphy, Plays written by Tom Murphy and Directed by Garry Hynes. DruidMurphy is a major retrospective of one of Ireland’s most respected living dramatists. This epic tale of Irish emigration is told through two of Tom Murphy’s greatest plays, Conversations on a Homecoming which will be performed on the 24th  of September  and A Whistle in the Dark on the 25th of September.

Crossing oceans and spanning decades, DruidMurphy is a sweeping tale that allows audiences to see who they are – regardless of where they might call home. 

A WHISTLE IN THE DARK –A play set in Coventry, England in 1960 which details the story of Irish emigrants, the uprooted Carney family and how they  adapt aggressively to life in an English city.

CONVERSATIONS ON A HOMECOMING – Is set in County Galway, West of Ireland in the 1970s. Even the humblest of small-town pubs can be a magnet for dreamers. Michael, after a ten-year absence, suddenly returns from New York and has a reunion with old friends, in that same pub “The White House”.
